The West Valley women's soccer team closed out the Coast Conference regular season with an important 3-1 win over 1st-place Hartnell Tuesday at Dick Schwendinger Field. The win enhances playoff positioning for the Vikings (12-4-5, 7-3-2 Coast), who closed out league play with a three-match unbeaten streak.

Melanie Asquith took a Holly Hopwood feed at mid-pitch and drove all the win in for a 1-0 Viking lead at 19'. After Hartnell (14-7-1, 8-3-1) made it 1-1 at 50', WVC put it away with goals from Ashley Wallace (Hopwood assist) in the 55th minute and Katie Bonvicino (Rachel Martin) at 85'. Samantha Coelho stopped four Panther shots for her 12th win in goal.

The Vikings open the CCCAA NorCal playoffs Saturday (11/16) at defending state champion Fresno City (17-2-3). Kickoff is 2:00pm.
