Men's Basketball at Monterey Bay Classic
The Hartnell Men's Basketball team played three games this past week at the Monterey Bay Classic hosted by Monterey Peninsula College. On Thursday the Panthers took on undefeated Irvine Valley (7-0). The Laser's took the lead early and headed into halftime leading 43-26. With a comfortable lead both teams traded points throughout the second half. The Panthers (3-7) couldn't close the gap and ended with a loss 73-52. Daniel Bost led the Panthers in scoring with 20 points. He made six three pointers. Tyrique Sears and Brenden Cannon each chipped in with eight points each. Cannon had a team high nine rebounds.
On Friday night the Panthers took on Santa Barbara (0-8) and got the win 72-67. Panthers showed rhythm and flow to their offense building a 10-point lead heading into the half. In the second half the Vaqueros made some runs and closed within four points before Daniel Bost sealed the game hitting two free throws with 12.3 seconds left to play and giving the Panthers a five point lead. Bost finished with 10 points and seven assists. Brenden Cannon and Cisco Narewski added 14 points and five rebounds each. Cannon had 11 of his 14 points in the second half. Tyrique Sears led the scoring with 15 points and five rebounds. The Panthers hit 11 3-pointers and are now (4-7) on the season.
On the last day of the classic the Panthers took on Cypress dropping the consolation championship by a final score of 67-52. The Panthers managed to score on a night when their offense was hard to come by. Latrell Pace and Brenden Cannon scored 11 points. Cisco Narewski scored four points and a team high 10 rebounds. The Chargers ran their record to (8-2).
The Panthers (4-8) have two games left before winter break. They will travel to play Consumnes River Saturday Dec. 14. and Potterville Monday Dec. 16.
