On Tuesday night, the Hartnell men's soccer team scored a season-high six goals in a 6-0 Coast Conference win against visiting Monterey Peninsula College. The Panthers ranked #3 in the State and #6 in the nation improved to (10-1-2, 3-0-2) and are in 2nd place in the Coast Conference South Division, two points behind leader De Anza. On Friday, the team will host De Anza ranked #2 in the State and #4 in the nation at 1:30 p.m. with first place on the line.
After enjoy the majority of possession and opportunities in the opening 30 minutes, Hartnell finally broke down a well organized Monterey defense with Jose Martinez's goal on the 33rd minute off a cross from Javier Alfaro. Six minutes later Jose Mendoza doubled the lead on a put back after a scramble in the six yard box giving Hartnell a 2-0 lead at the half.
It didn't take Hartnell long to open the scoring in the second half. Daniel Pulido slotted home another well placed cross from Javier Alfaro just a minute into the half. Jose Mendoza added another on the 61st minute and Alex Cibrian and Brandon Hernandez finished the scoring on the 73rd and 85th minute of the game to cap Hartnell's best offensive performance.
