Hot 1500 Meters Highlights ARC Beaver Relays

Hartnell College sophomore Yvette Felix continued to impress with her growth in her sophomore season with an outstanding early season 5000 meter run at the ARC Beaver Relays in Sacramento. Felix, who prepped at Anzar High School, etched her name as one of Hartnell College's best female distance runners recording a winning time of 18:38.25. She is now the ninth best performer in school history and second fastest in Northern California. She lead female Lady Panthers Olivia Jimenez (20:18.23) and Leslie Oseguera (20:24.44) to regional qualifying marks. Frosh Haley Romero lowered her season best in the 100 hurdles to 15.77. Romero is already the ninth fastest in school history as a freshman. The 4x100 meter relay of Romero, Leilani Russell, Sherise Robinson, and Bailee Rusconi were the overall winners with a season best 49.83 to top host school American River College. The foursome is ranked second in Northern California for the event. Alyssa Pochop won her second consecutive javelin competition and remains as the top thrower in Northern California at 114'7".
The highlight of the men's competition was the 1500 meter run where the Panthers placed they placed five runners in the top seven all with season bests. Edgar Bonilla lead with the win at 4:03.27 followed by Oscar Mora (4:06.85) in third, Andrew Martinez (4:07.17) in fourth, Jorge Sanchez (4:07.95) in sixth, and Edurado Orozco (4:09.74) in seventh. Sanchez also placed second in the 5000 meter run (15:35.01) followed by frosh Patrick Olson (15:48.65) in third. Olson also was a member of the winning Distance Medley Relay team with Jacob Niles, Adam Alnazer, and Sergio Coronel. They bested Coast Conference rival DeAnza College 10:49.15 to 10:53.90. Williams Ordaz placed second in his first 10,000 meter run (34:20.00). Thomas Salao was third in the javelin with a season best 42.05 meters.The Panthers will split squads this coming Friday. A group of distance runners will head south to Pasadena for the Occidental Distance Festival. The remainder of the team will compete at the DeAnza Invitational.
