Productive Home Meet for Panther Men
Hartnell College competed three men in the day one decathlon with Norman Napolitano winning the 100 meters (11.52) and long jump (20-5). Freshman Sherise Robinson lead a crew of five Lady Panthers in the day one heptathlon. She was the victor in the 200 meters at 26.10 in the rain and ran an impressive 17.47 over her first 100 meter hurdles race. Sophomore Beatriz Duarte dipped under the State B mark in the 10,000 meter run. She covered the 25 lap race in a personal best 40:59.42. Frosh duo Jocelyn Cervantes (42:08.59) and Leslie Oseguera (42:19.10) also completed the race and will be eligible for the Northern California championship race. Freshman Christian Aldape lead a total of six Panther men under the regional qualifying mark. He was clocked at 34:03.54 in his 10,000 meter debut. Following Aldape were Louis Leon (34:19.87), Williams Ordaz (34:22.06), Jorge Sanchez (34:22.15), Jamie Garcia (34:22.23) and Jonathan Saldana (34:34.58).
On Saturday, sophomores dominated the Panthers. Jose Ruiz kicked off the meet with a Norcal qualifying 10:14.75 in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Andrew Martinez won the 1500 meters in a lifetime best 4:02.23. Edgar Bonilla lowered his personal best in the 3000 meters (8:44.72) to win. Norman Napolitano was a two event winner in the pole vault (13-6) and triple jump (42-3.50). For the ladies, Yvette Felix lowered her 3000 meter best to 10:54.15. Chelsea Andrade won both hammer and discus competitions. Her toss of 135-9 was a lifetime best. Andrade cracked the 120 foot mark in the discus for the first time this season with 120-2. Alyssa Pochop won her fourth straight javelin competition at 109-3. Freshman Tanya Campos managed a victory in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:19.41) in her first attempt.
The Panthers will split squads this coming weekend with a small group competing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the rest of the team at the Chabot Invitational Friday and Saturday.
