Perez to NCAA D1 San Jose State
Hartnell College sophomore Mario Perez, Jr. has chosen to take his talents to San Jose State next fall. Mario is coming off a terrific sophomore season that saw him place 5th at the Northern CA Cross Country Championship to help the Panthers to their first team title since 2006. He placed top 20 at the CCCAA Championship propelling the Panthers to a second consecutive top five team finish.
This spring Mario got a late start to the season fighting off an early season injury to earn Northern California runner-up honors in the 10,000 meters and earn a spot at the CCCAA Championship. Mario placed 6th overall in the 10,000 meter final. He completes his Hartnell career with personal bests of 4:05, 15:42, and 32:20.
San Jose State University is a NCAA D1 program. Last fall, the Spartans sent an individual to the cross country national championship. Mario will join teammate Edgar Bonilla at San Jose State giving the Spartans two all-Northern CA runners on their roster.
