Modesto Meet Good for Panther Men
The Hartnell College track & field team traveled to Modesto Junior College for the Jack Albiani Invitational last Friday. With ideal competition weather, the Panthers were rewarded with season bests. The highlight for the men's team was the state leading hammer throw by King City grad Ashton Headley. His winning mark of 51.58m moved him into the top spot in Northern California and for the state. Headley is now the second best hammer thrower in Hartnell history and will look to join All-American and current school record holder Dustin Samms as the only Panthers ever over 170 feet.
In the sprints, freshman Jesse Mandujano produced a team best 51.72 in the 400 meters. Intermediate hurdler Ramon Duran also produced a lifetime best with his 52.80. Freshman Daniel Pantoja and Daniel Correa improved their 1500 meter season bests to near idential 4:16.40 and 4:16.93. The pair are just three seconds from the regional provisional mark. Rigo Garcia lowered his 5000m to 16:34.11. Freshman Zachary Sims met the provisional mark in the long jump with his mark of 6.45m. He along with Duran also had season bests in the javelin with Duran at 40.33m and Sims 38.73m. Headley returned in the discus competition to move his season best to 41.45. Orlando Dorado moved closer to a top 8 scoring spot with is new shot put mark of 10.55m.
The Panthers will head south to Cuesta College on Friday, March 25th for the Coast vs Valley Challenge.
