Headley Twin Returns at Last Chance Meet to Help Panthers
With one last chance to compete at the home facility, several Panthers improved their season bests and even tried a new event before the Coast Conference Championship next week. Leading the way was sophomore Isaac Gensel who lowered his lifetime best in the 1500 meters to 3:56.22. He is currently ranked third in Northern California and second in conference.
Freshman Kyras Headley waited patiently for nearly the entire season for a shoulder injury to heal before competing. Using the Last Chance/Open Meet, Headley was able to get two important marks that not only qualified him to compete in next week's conference championship but also for the Northern California Championship. In the hammer, he tossed it 42.35m (138-11). He returned for the discus competition later in the day and surpassed the provisional mark with a 40.95m (134-4). Freshman Marco Morado-Espinoza, an Alisal High School graduate, ran his best sprint double running 11.33 in the 100 meters and 22.76 in the 200 meters. Esteban Deniz put together a 3:58.32/1:58.87 doube. Frankie Maciel earned himself a State "B" mark in the 1500 meters in 4:01.09. Jesse Mandujano returned to the 400m hurdles to run a lifetime best 58.94 pulling freshman Ramon Duran to a personal best 59.01. Eduardo Martinez cleared 3.65m (12-0) for the first time in his career. Teammate Jonathan Arroyo also cleared 3.65m. Freshman Tyler Bellem improved to 11.27m (36-11.75) in the shot put. Frosh Zachary Sims launched the javelin over 40 meters for the first time in his career going 43.42m (142-5).
The Panthers will kick off the 2022 Coast Conference Championship on Wednesday, April 27th at the College of San Mateo. The long jump, pole vault, hammer, shot put , and 10,000 meter finals will be contested.
