Sims Unleashes Top Javelin Throw at West Coast Relays
Competing in the javelin competition of the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State University, sophomore Zachary Sims added over 20 feet to his season best in the javelin to finish fourth overall in the four year-heavy competition. His throw of 57.63m/189-1 moved Sims into the top spot in Northern California and in a tie for overall lead in the CCCAA. He trails only Hall of Famer Ron Guzman's school record of 202-6 set in 1991. Sims will take his new personal best in the javelin into the Norcal Decathlon Championship on April 11-12 at Modesto Junior College. Sims also competed in the triple jump for the first time this season with a mark of 12.69m/41-7.75.
Fellow Hollister High School grad Ramon Duran lowered his 400mIH best to 58.70. Marco Espinoza-Morado lowered his lifetime best in the 200 meters to 22.69 while also running second leg on the 4x400 relay that recorded a season best 3:33.44. The team was comprised of Duran, Espinoza-Morado, Johnny Venegas, and Joshua Shimoda. Ethan Lavina cleared 1.78m/5-10.00 in the high jump competition and added 12.90m/42-4.00 in the triple jump.
