Duran Leads in Modesto
The Hartnell men's squad sent a group to the rescheduled Jack Albiani Invitational at Modesto College looking for some improvement in key events heading into the annual De Anza dual meet and the upcoming Coast Conference Championships. Sophomore Ramon Duran enjoyed a solid hurdle and sprint double lowering his 110mHH time to 16.68 and his 200 meter to 23.52. The 110mHH moves Duran into the top four in the Coast Conference.
In the sprints, Javin Nair lead in the 100 meters (11.89), Duran over 200 meters, Marco Barrera at 400 meters (56.90). Axel Sanchez was tops for the Panthers in the 800 and 1500 meters at 2:11.99 and 4:31.20. Diego Villegas was the first Panther in the 5000 meters (18:31.22). Arturo Melgoza (11:39.32) lowered his time over the 3000 meter steeplechase.
In the field events, Javin Nair cleared 3.65m/11-11.75 in the pole vault. Johnny Venegas had the best long jump at 5.75m/18-10.50. Christopher Ruiz was tops in the triple jump 10.82m/35-6.00.
Hugo Chayres lead in the shot put (10.00m/32-9.75) and hammer (32.14m/105-5), Xavier Martinez (30.88m/101-4.00) in the discus, and Ramon Duran (40.50m/132-10.00) in the javelin.
The Panthers will compete next in the annual Hartnell vs De Anza "Duel" Meet on Wednesday, April 5th at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA.
