Panther Men Win Hancock Meet
With excellent Central Coast weather and good competition from four other teams, the Hartnell College men enjoyed a team victory at the Henry Kirk Invitational hosted by Allan Hancock College. This was the first home meet at Allan Hancock in over 30 years and all event winners were considered facility record holders. The Panther men enjoyed four event winners and scored 166 points to easily defeat Cuesta College who was second with 112 points.
Ethan Lavina equaled the State "B" mark in the long jump with a lifetime best 6.82m mark that moved him to tops in all of Northern California. Sophomore Josh Shimoda achieved the State "B" mark in the javelin throw with a lifetime best 48.93m. The mark moved him into the top seven in Northern California.
Freshman sprint phenom Eduardo Morfin won the 200 meters in a 22.44. Liam Pattison won the 800 meters breaking the two minute barrier in 1:59.67. The men's 4x400 relay team was victorious in 3:37.92. Remse Pamintuan won his first hammer competition in 40.42, remaining consistent above the 40 meter mark for the third time this season.
Mauro Medina-Rodriguez ran a lifetime best in the 400 meters (51.77). Elijah Melchor (2:02.33) and Jose Cota (2:02.52) also lowered their two lap best. Axel Sanchez lead all Panthers in the 1500 meters (4:20.80). Mario Avila was 16:41.62 as he gets back into shape. Hector Ortega cleared 5-7.00 in the high jump.
The Panthers will compete next at the CSM Bulldog Invitational hosted by the College of San Mateo on Saturday, March 16.
