Women’s Soccer - Opening Playoffs with a bang
On November 10, 2017, we hosted Cañada for their last league game in women’s soccer. The Lady Panthers suffered a tough loss with the final score being 1-5. This game featured Sophomore Night, the field filled with lots of emotion making the loss even harder for the girls. The first goal made was by Arianna Sandoval (#11) and goalkeeper Maria Isabel Pozos (#99) blocked 9 shots on goal and had 4 blocks. “We played a really good team, they got some really good goals on us, and our team made some mistakes,” stated Head Coach Ivan Guerrero. “We were playing catch up throughout the whole game. But overall it was a good season considering all the injuries we've had, I’m pretty happy with the group but today was a tough day.” The ladies closed the league season with 9-10-1 overall record and 4-6-1 in conference. On Monday, November 13 the team found out they were able to make playoffs!The first game of playoffs was on Thursday, November 16, 2017, with pouring rain, the Lady Panthers hosted Foothill, and took the win, with the final score of 2-1. “It was a really tough game, we faced this team earlier this year. They are the conference champions for the south division, so we knew it was going to be a hard battle. We limited them to scoring opportunities and we took advantage of the few that we had,” stated Coach Ivan Guerrero. The first goal was made by Diana Lopez (#14) and assisted by Teresa Aleman (#24), the second goal was made by Chace Miguel (#16); keeper Marian Isabel Pozos blocked 4 shots on goal and had 3 saves. The team now moves to the second round of playoffs next week. Go Panthers!
