Women’s Soccer look to bounce back
On September 29, 2017 the Women’s Soccer team traveled to Las Positas College to face the Hawks. The Panthers were traveling with a two game home winning streak. The first half of the match was scoreless on both sides. Sophomore (#16) Chace Miguel, wasted no time at the start of the second half, scoring the first goal of the game at the 49th minute mark giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Las Positas rallied back with 3 goals in the last 5 minutes! On the defense, goalkeeper (#99) Maria Isabel-Pozos stood out with 15 Shots on cage and 12 saves on that game alone. Unfortunately, Hartnell fell short to Las Positas by 3-1 goals. On October 3rd West Valley visited our campus to face our Lady Panthers. Within minutes, Hartnell set up a tempo of determination and ferocity. During the first few minutes of the first half, sophomore (#23) Claudia Alcantar placed the ball perfectly to fellow teammate (#16) Chace Miguel for the first goal of the game at the 7th minute mark, putting Hartnell on the scoreboard. This was Miguel’s 9th goal of the season and she now leads Conference in two categories - goals (9) and points (21). By halftime, the Panthers had a lead of 1-0 having control in the first half. However, West Valley showed no mercy coming back in the field for the second half. In the opening seconds, the Hawks scored to make things just a little interesting making the score 1-1. The one-two-punch power house of Chace Miguel and Freshman (#18) Brenda Avila continued to put pressure on West Valley with plenty of shots on goal, but just couldn’t connect on cage. The Lady Panthers fell short once again losing to West Valley 3-1. The team is now 5-6 (.455) and 1-2 (.333) in conference play. Go Panthers!
