Strader's Throws Highlight Chabot Opener
Sophomore Katelyn Strader picked up two State "B" marks in the second meet of the season to pace the Hartnell women's track & field squad to the team victory. On Friday, competing in her second hammer competition of the season, Strader unleased a toss of 46.53m (152-8) that moved her to third statewide and third all-time in Hartnell history. The Pajaro Valley grad would win the discus competition Saturday with her best mark of her final season as a Panther. Her discus landed at 37.41m (122-9) which also moved her to third overall statewise and tops in the Coast Conference.
Isabella Reimann was an event winner in the hammer with a mark of 47.66m (156-4) and second in the discus with a season best 37.16m (121-11). Sophomore Andrea Villegas won her second 800 meter race of the season in 2:23.44. Lorraine Mankins won the triple jump iin her season debut in a State "B" mark of 10.56m (34-7.75). Mankins also won the javelin with a lifetime personal best 30.38m (99-8). In the sprints, Aaliyah Carreras placed third among community college athletes with her 61.74 debut. Carreras would team up with Roxana Ruelas, Clodine Tabernilla, and Marilyn Macias to place second in the 4x100 relay in 50.28. The mark was good enough to earn a State "B" early season mark. Villegas helped Ruelas, Macias, and Carreras also pick up a "B" in the 4x400 relay placing second among community colleges in 4:14.88. Sophomore Ashley Ochoa was the second community college finisher in the 1500 meters in 5:08.93, just three seconds off her lifetime best.
Also competing well in other events was Reimann who debuted in the long jump at 1.45m (4-9), as she stepped away from the ring to get back to her jumping roots. Freshman Daisy Macias lowered her 100mH time to 17.41. Strader became the first Panther to reach 30 feet in the shot put with her season best 9.36m (30-8.50). Frosh Grace Padron reached 100 feet in the discus in her second college meet with a mark of 31.15m (102-2). Padron also tossed a personal best 32.25m (105-10) in the hammer. Teammate Zaira Hernandez was next at 31.37 (102-11), her first mark ever over 100 feet.
The Panthers will return to action in two weeks at the Jack Albiani Invitational at Modesto Junior College on Friday, March 10. Modesto Junior College will be host the 2023 CCCAA State Track & Field Championship in May. A small group of distance runners will travel south to the Occidental Spring Break Distance Classic looking for State "A" marks in races run at night.
