Carreras and Relays Strong at West Coast Relays
Marina High School graduate Aaliyah Carreras is on a record book assault since starting her season back on February 25 at the Chabot Opener. She's added her name to the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100, and 4x400 list in the span of four weeks. Competing under ideal sprint conditions at the West Coast Relays at Buchanan High School, site of the CIF High School State Championship, Carreras moved closer to breaking the Hartnell College 100 meter record. She was a heat winner in the 100 meters at 12.08 improving on her 12.12 season best set at the Wildcat Cup. She's now just 0.07 from Ashley Jones's 12.01 record set in 2013. Carreras is ranked second in Northern California in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters. She teamed up with Clodine Tabernilla, Roxana Ruelas, and Daisy Macias to record their second fastest 4x100 relay time of 49.86. That is the thirteenth best 4x100 relay mark in program history. Carreras ended her day with Ruelas, Marilyn Macias, and Dominique Cervantes-Samudio with the twelfth fastest 4x400 relay time in school history with 4:06.19. The time achieved the State "A" qualifying mark joining Diablo Valley College as one of two teams to have reached the mark. The two schools faced off last year in the Norcal Championship with the Vikings taking the 4x400 title but Hartnell the overall women's team title.
Clodina Tabernilla lowered her 100 meter best 13.08. Freshman Dominique Cervantes-Samudio improved on her season best in the 400 meters (62.71). Roxana Ruelas took two seconds off her 400mLH from last week to run 67.35 to remain third ranked in Norcal and tops in the Coast Conference. Mercedes Rosales-Rivera also lowered her 400mLH time (80.29). Rosales-Rivera cleared 1.37m as did Daisy Macias in the high jump to prep for the Norcal Heptathlon Championship. Lorraine Mankins cleared 3 meters for the second time this season in the pole vault. Isabella Reimann (43.83/143-9) and Grace Padron (31.66m/103-10) both competed in the hammer throw.
The Panthers will compete next in the annual Hartnell vs De Anza "Duel" Meet on Wednesday, April 5th at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA.
