Hartnell Women Win Dual Meet With De Anza
It has been since 2018 that a Hartnell College women's track & field team has won the annual dual meet with conference foe De Anza College. Despite winning the Northern California title in 2018, 2019, and 2022, the Panthers have only won one of the head to head matchups. This year, with a balanced attack across all events, the Panther women prevailed with the highest winning score in the history of the meet. Six new meet records were also established in this year's edition.
Sophomore Sofia Camacho was a triple event winner and improved her meet records from the 2022 competition. She was timed in 4:47.48 in the 1500m and 2:21.63 in the 800 meters. To finish her day, she won the 3000 meters in 10:58.82. Aaliyah Carreras set two new meet records in winning the 100 meters (12.12) and 200 meters (25.12). She also ran second leg on the meet record setting 4x100 relay (49.57) that included Clodine Tabernilla, Roxana Ruelas, and Marilyn Macias. Isabella Reimann won the hammer throw in a meet record 49.03m/160-10.
Other event winners included Dominique Cervantes-Samudio (62.51) in the 400 meters, Roxana Ruelas (68.93) in the 400mLH, Clodine Tabernilla in the javelin (27.28m/89-6), and the 4x400 relay with Carreras, Cervantes-Samudio, Ruelas, and Macias in 4:18.44.
The Panthers will travel south to Southern California for the Long Beach City College Twilight Classic for the opportunity to compete out of region for a weekend. The meet will be held on Friday, April 7 at Veteran's Stadium in Long Beach.
