Camacho's 5k Highlights Mathis Meet
Hartnell sophomore Sofia Camacho lead the top Norcal ranked Panthers into the Johnny Mathis Invitational at San Francisco State University looking to sharpen up performances before the championship portion of the season. The defending state 800m champion, showed she's in the best shape of her life by becoming the third Hartnell female ever to eclipse the 18 minute barrier in the 5000 meter run. Competing against mostly four year competition, Camacho would place second only to an unattached runner but be timed in a lifetime best 17:51.78. She trails only state 1500m champion Malena Grover (17:09) and 2022 teammate Isabelle Torres (17:49). Camacho will now look to defend her 1500 and 800 meter Coast Conference titles in the coming weeks.
Clodine Tabernilla lead in the 100 meters with a 13.20 performance. Marilyn Macias was tops in the 200 meters (28.48). Aaliyah Carreras ran under 60 seconds for the second time this season at 58.61. She remains ranked #2 in Northern California. Ashley Ochoa returned to action after being out with peroneal tendonitiis. She was a heat winner in the 1500 meters (5:20.46). Roxana Ruelas recorded a hurdle double of 17.07/67.07 in the 100mh/400mLH. The 4x100 relay team of Ruelas, Macias, Carreras, and Tabernilla won the event in 49.78. Andrea Villegas would join Ruelas, Carreras, and Macias to run 4:07.05, the second fastest performance of the season.
In the field events, Mercedes Rosales-Rivera cleared 1.38m in the high jump. Rosales also recorded 9.53m in the triple jump. Daisy Macias recorded her first 30 foot triple jump with a 9.16m season best. Lorraine Mankins cleared 10 feet again at 3.10m to place third overall. Grace Padron lead in the shot put at 9.04m. Isabella Reimann was tops in the discus at 31.71m and hammer at 44.19m.
The Panthers will have one final prep for the Coast Conference Championship at the Laney Last Chance Meet on Friday, April 21st.
