Camacho and Reimann Take Day One Conference Titles
After the first day of Coast Conference Championship, the Hartnell College women find themselves leading defending team champion De Anza College by 11 points 79 to 68. The Panthers were lead by individual titles by sophomores and returning All-Americans Isabella Reimann and Sofia Camacho.
Sophomore Isabella Reimann won her second consecutive conference title in the hammer in her home ring with a fourth round throw of 45.61m, an improvement of over two meters on her winning mark last year. Fellow sophomore and teammate Katelyn Strader held the lead in the competition with second round throw of 42.61m, in her first hammer competition since March 25th. Strader would hold on for second place for the second consecutive year. Freshman Grace Padron placed fourth pulling in five team points with her toss of 35.38. In fifth was sophomore Zaira Hernandez with a mark of 32.61m. Freshman Felicita De Jesus was eighth with a lifetime best 24.94m.
In the women's 10,000 meter run, sophomore Sofia Camacho won her first title at the distance. She pulled away from Serena Geis over the final 1000 meters to stop the clock in 39:14.94. Teammate Andrea Villegas would join Camacho with a State "A" qualifying 39:54.07 in her 25 lap debut. Sophomore Ashley Ochoa adde da fifth place finish and four points in 42:32.59. Freshmen Lapis Hernandez (49:06.12) and Maria Garcia (49:13.86) finished seventh and eighth adding the points to the team total.
Lorraine Mankins repeated as the conference runner-up in the pole vault clearing 3.10m. She also placed fifth in the long jump (4.64m) behind teammate Clodine Tabernilla (4.68m) was fourth. Freshman Daisy Macias was sixth in a lifetime best 4.64m and Mercedes Rosales-Rivera was seventh with a lifetime best 4.61m.
The Hartnell women added six points in the shot put lead by Grace Padron's 8.98m good for sixth place. Katelyn Strader was seventh (8.31m) and Linette Morales Martinez in eighth (8.25m).
The Panther women will look to complete a conference title on Saturday, April 29th Field events start at 11am with running beginning at 2pm.
