Macias Powers Panthers at Bulldog Invite
After traveling south the previous weekend, the Panther women enjoyed a weekend closer to home. Lead by Daisy Macias in the hurdle races, the Panthers enjoyed four top three finishes and several key personal bests.The meet was attended by nine Northern California teams.
Sophomore Daisy Macias achieved the State "B" mark in just her second 400mLH race of this season. She was timed in 67.85, nearly a one second personal best and good for seventhn all-time in Hartnell history. Macias also placed second in the 100mH in her second fastest time of the season (15.76). The former King City Mustang is prepping for her second Northern California Championship heptathlon. Lucianna Romeo took second in the javelin throw with a personal best 27.37m. Naia Hobson was third in 26.86m. Grace Padron was second in the hammer with another 40 meter toss at 40.82m. Padron also flirted with 10 meters in the shot put with a lifetime best 9.99m. Freshman Taylan Flower enjoyed her best college meet with three season bests. She started with a 18.06 in the 100mH, then surpassed the 30 feet barrier in the triple jump with a 9.34m jump, and finished the day with a 1:13.56 personal best in the 400mLH. Emily Orozco lowered her 400mLH to 1:14.06 and tied her season best in the high jump at 1.45m. Freshman Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda ran a season best in the 1500m (5:25.93). Valeria Lozano Gomez continued her road back to fitness with a 2:30.69 in the 800 meters. Roselyn Olivo dropped down to 400 meters (64.06).
The Panthers will split squads with most of the team competing at the Pat Ryan Invitational at Santa Rosa Junior College on March 21-22. A select group will venture to the West Coast Relays on March 22-23 at Clovis Buchanan High School.
