Vaqueros Defeat Hartnell, Fall to West Valley at Bob Burton Classic

SARATOGA, CA – The SBCC men's basketball team split its games at the Bob Burton Classic hosted by West Valley, falling to West Valley 90-52 on Friday before defeating Hartnell 75-70 on Saturday.

The Vaqueros (5-10) got a big game from Wilfrid Nado, who led the way with 19 points and five assists. Fellow sophomore guard Elijah Simpson had a big game off the bench, scoring 14 points, his second-most of the year.

Aidan Mandel put in 12 points, eight boards and two blocks. Jaelen Bates finished with nine points, four boards and four assists.

Despite being slightly outshot from the field, Santa Barbara led 37-30 at halftime and was able to hold on for the five-point win, taking a 41-32 edge on the glass.

West Valley 90, SBCC 52
SBCC opened the weekend against a West Valley side that was on fire throughout, especially in the second half. The Vikings outscored the Vaqueros 53-27 in the second half of the 90-52 win.

Mandel was a bright spot once again for Santa Barbara, recording his fourth straight 20-point game with 20, eight rebounds and three steals on 9-of-14 from the field.

Unfortunately for the Vaqueros, the defense couldn't slow down West Valley which finished shooting 65.3 percent from the field and a remarkable 15-for-23 (.652) on threes.
