The #10 seeded Hartnell Men's Soccer team traveled to #7 Butte on Saturday Nov. 23 for the First Round of the CCCAA State Playoffs and knocked off the Golden Valley Conference Champions. After playing through regulation and overtime all tied up 2-2, the Panthers edged the Roadrunners 4-2 in penalty kicks to take home the victory and advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Offensively Adrian Serrato got the Panthers on the score board first with a goal in the 15:00 minute on an assist by Ramiro Vazquez. Anthony Rangel would score the second goal at the 21:00 minute mark on an assist by Isaac Frias. Through regulation and overtime the two teams would battle for possesion trying to create opportunities to take the lead. The Panthers would rise up to the occasion and play their best when it counted the most. Panthers would out shoot the Roadrunners 4-2, with goalkeeper Isaac Frias making some key stops in crunch time.
The Panthers will advance to the second round of the playoffs to play #2 Fresno City on Tuesday Nov. 26 in Fresno. The game time will be 11 a.m.
