State Preview a Positive for the Panthers
This year's CCCAA State Championship will be held in the newly renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, CA. The Panthers anticipate having a large group of qualifiers to this year's championship and used Saturday's Mt. SAC Community College Invitational to preview the facilities. Freshman Ashton Headley walked away as an event winner taking the hammer competition with a personal best 51.57m (169-2). He currently sits second ranked in the CCCAA and Northern California and is looking to become the second Hartnell thrower over 170 feet in the hammer.
Isaac Gensel took two second place finishes in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters. In the 1500 meters, Gensel posted a personal best 3:56.32 which will bump him into the second spot in Northern California. He also posted his third sub 15 clocking in the 5000 meters running 14:57.05 coming up just short of the win. Esteban Deniz ran 4:00.00 and Ricky Diaz III posted a season best 4:02.89, dropping his time by over five seconds. Deniz was also 15:07.66 in the 5000 meters. Manuel Gallardo hit the State "A" in the discus with a lifetime best 44.22m (145-1). He also improved on his regional provisional hammer with a new best 44.97m (147-6). Orlando Dorado qualified provisionally with his 41.49m (136-1) season best. He's just short of the top 20 all-time with a few more meets to move up. Francisco Maciel improved his 3k steepelchase to 9:45.72 and doubled back with 15:20.06 in the 5000m. Daniel Pantoja went sub 10 on the state meet track in 9:59.67. Ramon Duran threw 41.51m (136-2) in the javelin and was timed in 17.18. Jesse Mandujano was 51.58 in the 400m. Edgar Martinez (37.23m/122-1) and Andy Ruiz (36.88m/121-0) also got the opportunity to compete in the hammer.
The Panthers will host a last chance meet on Saturday, April 23rd in preparation for the return of the 2022 Coast Conference Championship. This year's championship will be held at the College of San Mateo.
