Deniz Wins First Conference Title on Day One
Heading into the return of the 2022 Coast Conference Championship, the Hartnell College men were well aware they would be facing a tough DeAnza College squad for the team title. On Day One of the championship at College of San Mateo, the Panthers were able to pick up one individual title while placing multiple finishers in the top 8 in all the scheduled finals. Freshman Esteban Deniz lead the way with his first title as a Panther winning the 10,000 meter run. His time of 31:41.95 was a 26 second personal best and moves the King City graduate to eighth fastest all-time. He will also be ranked second heading into next week's Northern California Championship 10,000 meter final. Isaac Gensel placed third in a personal best 32:01.28 with Francisco Maciel in fourth in 33:35.53. Ricky Diaz III picked up the Norcal Provisional in fifth at 33:48.88. Frosh Daniel Pantoja lowered his 25 lap personal best to 34:14.89 to place sixth. Josh Riley was seventh in 34:59.98. Miguel Leon-Fernandez was eighth in 35:48.16.
In the men's shot put Ashton Headley was second in 13.96m. Teammate Manuel Gallardo was fourth at 12.23m, his season best. Frosh Tyler Bellem picked up one point in eighth in 11.45m. In the men's hammer, Gallardo was third in 41.85m. Freshman Orlando Dorado was fourth in 41.55m, a new lifetime best and Northern California Provisional mark. Edgar Martinez managed seventh in 37.68m. Freshman Eduardo Martinez tied for sixth in the pole with a clearance of 3.60m. Elijah Washington was able to place third in the long jump at 6.37m. Freshman Zachary Sims was seventh in 5.91m.
The Panther men have a narrow lead over rival DeAnza College 68 to 64 heading into Day Two on Saturday, April 30th.
