2015-2016 Jose ran his fastest race of his freshman year at the Lou Vasquez Invitational (22:01). He placed 21st at the Coast Conference Championship.

In track, Jose enthusiastically adopted the 3000 meter steeplechase as his signature event and placed third at the Coast Conference Championship. He narrowly missed advancing to the Northern California Championship in his first year in the event.

Prior to Hartnell: Jose had a great senior season while at San Benito High School placing third overall at the Monterey Bay League Championship at Toro Park in 16:20. As a senior, he helped San Benito earn a term berth to the CIF State Championship.

"Jose has the tools to run very well this fall.He did some great training this summer but will just need to manage his time with work, school, and running to do well. I've seen him right with our top guys in training. I'm pulling for him to have a memorable sophomore season."
