Bio

Frankie Martinez enters his first season with the Panthers with his main responsibility being the throwing events. Prior to Hartnell College, Frankie assisted at his alma mater University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico while he completed his Master's in Exercise Science. He also completed his athletic career at USW where he established all the program's throwing records. He was the 2016 Red River Conference champion in the shot put and discus. He was USW first All-American in the throws with his eighth place finish in the hammer throw in 2016. An all-conference performer in four events, Frankie was named the USW Athlete of the Year in 2016. He left USW with school records in the shot, discus, hammer, javelin, and weight throw. Prior to USW, Frankie competed for CSU Stanislaus where he earned CCAA all-conference honors in the hammer throw in 2014. He still holds the current deadlift record at Stanislaus. 

Frankie returns to Hartnell College where he was an athlete in 2010-2012. While a Panther, Frankie qualified to the CCCAA State Championship in the hammer in 2012 by placing third at the Northern California Championship. His sophomore year saw him earn regional qualifying marks in shot put, discus and hammer. Frankie was all-conference in all three throws. repeating his feat from this freshman year. He was named the Most Valuable Field athlete for his outstanding season. As a freshman, Frankie qualified to Norcals in shot put and earned all-conference honors in shot put, discus, and hammer. He was named Most Valuable Field athlete as a freshman. He is still ranked seventh all-time in program history in the hammer throw. He is also still ranked eleventh in the discus. 

Frankie is a graduate of San Benito High School and holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Exercise Science. Frankie also graduated from Hartnell College with is A.A. degree in General Education with an emphasis in Language and Rationality. He is an adjunct instructor in the Kinesiology Department at Hartnell College.
