Roadrunners go 2-2 at Delta Classic

Stockton, Calif. - The Butte women's volleyball team went 2-2 at the Delta Classic, falling to American River 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-12) and Hartnell 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-18) on Thursday before rebounding with five-set wins over Shasta 25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13) and Santa Rosa (25-16, 25-20, 16-25, 21-25, 15-13) on Saturday.

Freshman Rylee Keim led the Roadrunner offense against American River with six kills, while sophomore Kylie Walsh racked up 23 digs and an ace on defense. Freshman Abby Mertle earned a pair of blocks at the net.

Keim was the top hitter against Hartnell with 10 kills, adding a double-double with 12 digs with three aces. Walsh tallied 11 digs and a pair of aces, while freshman Koya Porter earned five blocks, including a pair of solos.

Keim and Porter earned nearly half of the team's kills against Shasta with Keim counting 12 and Porter earning eight. Four Roadrunners reached double figures for digs, led by Walsh's 19. Keim added 15, sophomore Riley Gainza counted 12, and freshman Zoey James chipped in 10. Keim also had four aces, while freshman Audrey Jones posted six blocks.

And Keim recorded her third double-double of the tournament against Santa Rosa with a team-high 14 kills and 23 digs with four aces. Walsh nearly reached double-double status with 25 digs and eight aces, while Mertle blocked a match-high five attacks. James chipped in 18 digs, while Jones and Gainza each earned four aces apiece.

Butte (3-5) continues competition on the road, heading to Cosumnes River on Wednesday, Sept. 13 for a pair of matches against Modesto (4 p.m.) and the host team at 6 p.m.
