Men's soccer team shuts out Hartnell to begin tourney trip

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Friday afternoon.

The Lasers started the Hartnell College tournament with a 3-0 victory over host Hartnell.

Irvine Valley opened its 2023 campaign with a tough loss to El Camino last week at home.

But now after the win on Friday, the Lasers move on to the championship of the event on Saturday against Fresno City at 2 p.m.

Irvine Valley got on the board early Friday with a goal by sophomore forward Grant Miller in the third minute. Freshman midfielder Jayden Llamas recorded the assist for IVC.

The Lasers increased their lead in the 15th minute with a goal by sophomore midfielder Jacob Edwards off a pass from sophomore defender Anthony Ocampo.

And IVC finished its scoring in the 88th minute. Freshman forward Armon Haghighat found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore forward Ivan Lopez.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Josh Simonton recorded a clean sheet with five saves.
