Panther Men Score a Win at Chabot Twilight

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Panther men wore their "Las Panteras" singlets for the Chabot Twilight.

The Hartnell College men were looking to build on the their recent success at the Norcal Preview Meet and in preparation for their final two cross country regular season meets in October. The Chabot Twilight 3k/5k allowed the Panthers to run a non-traditional distance and format and with several outstanding marks, provided the momentum going into October the Panthers were hoping for. The team split squads between the 3000m and 5000m races and were victorious in both.

In the shorter 3000 meter race, freshman Jacob Dizon was the top finish in eighth place at 9:44.6. He was followed closely by Axel Sanchez (9:48.0) and freshman Carlos Rangel (9:48.1). Josue Macias (9:55.5) also broke the 10 minute barrier. The Panthers scored a perfect 15 points as no other team had the requisite five runners for a scoring team.

Sophomore Moises Benito is rounding back into the form that saw him run 3:54/8:34 last spring in his first track season as a Panther. With an aggressive first 2400 meters in the the longer 5000 meter race, Benito found himself battling two-time 5CTCA Runner of the Week Mateo Delgadillo of American River College. Delgadillo would get the better of Benito on this day with Benito satisfied at a personal best 14:48.2. Sophomore Mario Avila shaved 30 seconds off his personal best with his 15:28.0 clocking. Elijah Melchor ran 15:44.0 in his 5000 meter debut. Emiliano Ramirez (16:07.6) and Kaimana Cantere (16:09.9) finished off the scoring. The Panthers defeated American River College for the second time in as many weeks 33 to 36 setting up an exciting battle for the Northern California title come November.
