Panthers Get Third at Toro Park Invitational
With teams coming from both ends of the state, the Hartnell College men enjoyed a solid competition on familiar ground at Toro Park. Teams from College of the Redwoods in the North and Cuyamaca College in the South, provided terrfiic competition. The Panthers would nearly steal a team victory finishing just 13 points behind top ranked Clovis Community College and 5 points behind Coast Conference rival De Anza College. The Panthers did defeat Socal #10 Cuyamaca College who placed fourth overall.
Sophomore Moises Benito attempted to steal the victory with a strong move in the hills but could not overcome a strong run from De Anza College's Antoine Moret. Moret (21:01) would run a top 75 all-time performance for Toro Park despite race termperate hovering around 93 degrees. Benito would get second overall to lead the Panthers in 21:17. Mario Avila was ninth (22:01) with frosh Elijah Melchor (22:10) in eleventh. Kaimana Cantere enjoyed his best Hartnell race in 25th (22:53). Frosh Gael Godinez (23:18) stepped up as the fifth scoring runner in 32nd. Emiliano Ramirez (24:03) and Juan Gonzalez (24:08) rounded out the top seven.
The Panthers will travel south for the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday, October 13. The men will race at 10:45am.
