Coach Steven Terry brings an unparalleled level of passion and extensive coaching experience to his role as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Hartnell Community College for the 2023-2024 season. With an impressive coaching career spanning 18 years, Coach Terry is primed to lead the Women's program to new heights. Having previously served as an assistant coach alongside the nationally renowned and respected Head Coach Andrew Vasher for nine years, Coach Terry is now poised to guide the Women's team to success.

Coach Terry's unwavering commitment to player development and deep understanding of the game have been instrumental in shaping players' skills and fostering a winning mentality. He works tirelessly with players and coaches across the Salinas Valley, instilling essential basketball concepts, honing skills, and imparting his comprehensive basketball philosophy.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Coach Terry previously served as the men's strength and conditioning coach, ensuring that players were physically prepared to excel on the court. He possesses exceptional organizational skills, managing the team's social media accounts, analyzing opponent scouting reports and game films, and actively contributing to local recruiting efforts. As an adjunct faculty member at Hartnell College, Coach Terry's dedication extends beyond coaching and encompasses academic support for student-athletes.

During his time with the men's program, Coach Terry played a pivotal role in developing three Semi-Professional athletes, three Division I Transfers, nine Division II Transfers, six All-Conference players, and one Freshman of the Year. His instrumental role in their development earned him the distinction of being selected as an assistant coach representative for the CCCMBCA, where he actively contributed to annual Hall of Fame dinners, the CCCAA State Tournament, and Sophomore Showcases.

Born and raised in Soledad, CA, Steven Terry's basketball journey commenced at Soledad High School, where he graduated in 2002. His exceptional work ethic and dedication propelled him to join the Men's Basketball Team at Hartnell College, under the guidance of Hall of Fame Coach Frank Carbajal, from 2003 to 2005. Steven's outstanding contributions earned him the Scholar Athlete Award, and he played a vital role in leading the team to the post-season from 2003 to 2005.

Following his tenure at Hartnell College, Coach Terry transferred to California State University, Fullerton, from 2006 to 2009. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2008 and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education the following year. During his time at CSU Fullerton, Coach Terry served as a student assistant under the esteemed Coach Bob Burton, a legendary figure in California Community College basketball. The team experienced remarkable success, including a 20-10 season in 2006-07 and capturing the Big West Conference title in 2008, earning them a coveted spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Upon graduating, Steven Terry returned to his alma mater, Soledad High School, where he has been teaching physical education since 2009. From 2010 to 2014, he assumed the role of Head Coach for the Boy's Basketball program, boasting an overall winning percentage just shy of .500. In 2013, Coach Terry pursued further education, earning a Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Terry has actively contributed to various basketball summer and skills camps, including those hosted by CSU Fullerton, Stanford University, UC Irvine, San Jose State, Loyola Marymount University, PGC, and the Larry Drew Basketball Academy. Notably, he served as a commissioner of the Derek Fisher Basketball Academy for four years. Coach Terry takes immense pride in his work with the Pinnacle Basketball Academy Elite, a non-profit basketball program he established in 2010, which has served over 800 players in the youth community of South Monterey County.

Off the court, Coach Terry resides in Soledad with his loving wife Elizabeth and their athletic nine-year-old daughter, Paisley, and their energetic four-year-old son, Taytum.

With a defensive mindset, a positive attitude, and an unwavering commitment to relentless effort and toughness, Coach Terry continues to make a profound impact on his alma mater's hardwood at Hartnell College. Go Harts! Go Panthers! Be Elite!
