Hartnell Swim State Championship Wrap Up
May 9, 2023
On May 4-6, Kanyada Doughty and Luca Romeo, both from Salinas High, represented Hartnell Swim and Dive at the CCCAA State Championships at East LA College.
This year's meet was historically fast as ten new state records were set.
Kanyada competed in the following:
- 200 Individual Medley where she held onto her 7th place ranking finishing the finals in 7th, further breaking her school record to a 2:13.98
- 100 Butterfly was one of the most competitive races of the meet having two swimmers break the state record and Kanyada finished 4th with a 58.62
- 200 Butterfly again another state record for the winner and Kanyada finished 5th furthering her school record to at 2:15.09
Luca competed in the following:
- 50 Free where she raced her way from 22nd to qualify 16th in the prelims and made the finals finishing 16th with a 25.85
- 100 Butterfly where she also made the finals finishing in 13th place with a 1:0277
- 200 Freestyle where she raced her way from a 24th seed to a 19th place finish with a 2:04.27. What was very impressive about this swim is it was a 1.4 second PR for her and it happened 20 minutes after the 100 Butterfly.
The Hartnell Women's Team finished the meet ranked 21 out of 57 teams with just two swimmers! For reference we tied for 21st with Ventura College who had 10 women competing, and lost by 1 point to Foothill College who had 11 women.
It is a testament to the hard work of these two young ladies. They represented Hartnell so well the entire season, and especially at the state championships. The Hartnell Swim and Dive program is very proud of them!
Go Panthers!
