Olivo Achieves Double Qualifying at Oxy
Freshman Roselyn Olivo is showing sophomore maturity early in her Hartnell College track & field career. After finishing as a cross country All-American, Olivo has already achieved multiple track qualifying marks early in her first spring season. Running at Occidental College in the Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic, she achieved another two state qualifying marks to go along with her 10,000m mark achieved on Feburary 23rd.
A day after competing in the 800m and setting a lifetime best, the former Alvarez High School runner, lowered her season best in the 1500 meters to 4:55.66 despite having to push the pace in the second and third lap. The time moves Olivo on to the all-time list in Hartnell history and third overall in Northern California. She would return to the track a few hours later and run an outstanding 5000 meter race with a time of 18:30.00. The performance was a lifetime best by 19 seconds over the 5000m she produced at the Chabot Twilight in the fall. Olivo moves to eleventh best all-time in the 5000 meters and will look to move up on March 29th at the Mike Fanelli Classic.
Daisy Macias kicked off the day in the 100mh running 16.07. She would set a competition personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 1.52m. Also competing were Valeria Lozano-Gomez who ran a season best in the 1500 meters in 5:11.43. Jimena Hernandez debuted in the 3k steeplechase in 13:25.07. Grace Padron continued her fine hammer throwing with another toss of 40 meters at 41.01m.
