Panther Women Second at Mt. SAC Invite
The Hartnell College women have produced numerous top marks and team finishes at the Mt. SAC Invitational and this year's group managed a second place team finish even with resting freshman Yareli Meza. The team pushed host Mt. SAC early with Roselyn Olivo and freshman Janai Orozco running 1-2 at the "cross over". The duo managed to place third and fourth with sophomore Jimena Hernandez-Tejeda enjoying her best race possibly since the State Preview in seventh. Olivo crossed the finish line in 19:30, a 14 second improvement over last year's performance. Orozco closed the gap to Olivo getting to within three seconds in 19:33. Orozco has shown steady improvement all season and will look to possibily finish in the top 28 in her first state championship. Hernandez-Tejeda improved her Mt. SAC time by 43 seconds to 20:34. Freshman Lucero Benigno (22:35) and sophoimore Isabelle Rocha (22:56) rounded out the top five Panthers. Karen Perez (23:33) and Natalia Tapia San Miguel (23:43) were the final two runners in the top seven. Isabella Rocha (24:37) rounded out the team.
The Hartnell women will look to defend their Coast Conference title on Wednesday, October 30th at Crystal Springs. Roselyn Olivo will look to become Hartnell's fourth consecutive individual champion after placing second last year.
