Week 1: Panther Football Alumni Weekly Rundown
As we continue to patiently wait for clearance to begin our 2020-2021 pre-season with our fellow student-athletes, teams around the country have been gearing up for their seasons to get going. We check in with former Panther football players that have transferred to the next level and will play their scheduled football season this fall. We will kick off our weekly recap to see how their teams fared over the weekend.
Davon Ferguson - Jr. - Safety - University of Kansas - Ferguson entered camp as one of the leading candidates to start at his position. He's the top returning tackler from the 2019 season recording 57 total tackles (42 solo). He finished the 2019 season with a start in each of the last five games.
Over the weekend the Jayhawks kicked off their season welcoming Coastal Carolina. Ferguson started at the safety spot and recorded two tackles, two solo, and a forced fumble as the Jayhawks dropped their season opener 38-23 to the Chanticleers.
Isaiah Randalle - Jr. - Quarterback - Kansas Wesleyan University - Randalle enters camp as a Jr. transfer and battling for the quarterback position.
The Coyote's welcomed Friends University as they opened up at home. Randalle stepped in as the second quarterback to run the offense. He quickly settled in and did what most of us have seen him do on Saturday's. He found a groove with his receivers completing 10 of his 11 passes for a total of 202 yards and two touchdowns in the 70-17 victory.
Juan Herrera - Sr. - Kicker/Punter - Kansas Wesleyan University - Herrera fellow teammate of Randalle returns for his Sr. season as a Kicker/Punter for the Coyotes.
With the Coyote's moving the football up and down the field and scoring points easily, Herrera services weren't needed as the Coyotes never had to punt in their 70-17 victory. Herrera also adds kickoff duties to his role and totalled 11 kickoffs for an average of 57.6 yards per kick.
Taji Jones-Counts - Jr. - Offensive Lineman - Southwestern College - Taji-Counts entered camp looking to get some snaps on the line where the Moundbuilders return four offensive lineman and an All-American center.
The Moundbuilders opened up their 2020 season with a 41-21 victory over Tabor College.
Cameron Walker - Sr. - Wide Receiver - Friends University - Walker heads into his senior year looking to contribute at the wide receiver position.
The Falcons had their hands full visiting Kansas Wesleyan and dropping their season opener 70-17.
