Men's Relays Excel at Hornet Invitational
Competing at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational for the first time in several years, the Hartnell College men's team returned with some important improvements in the relays and several individual events. Competing over two days, the Panthers saw numerous season bests ranging from Friday's 200 meter races to Saturday's 4x400 meter relay.
On Friday, freshman Shraee Harrison lead the charge with a heat winning 22.17 that keeps the newcomer ranked in the top 9 in Northern California. It was the fifteenth best mark of the meet and fourth best amongst community college athletes. Fellow frosh De'Antae Williams ran a lifetime best 22.37 to improve on his regional qualifying mark over the half lap distance. Tim Hunter was timed at 23.09 and newcomer Jakob Streeter posted his first 200 meters of the season in 23.36. On Saturday, the foursome kicked the day off with a season best 42.54 in the 4x100 meter relay to inch closer to an all-time list mark. The Panthers are now ranked ninth in Northern California. Freshman Guy Gida had a lifetime best in the hammer as he hurled it to 35.44m. Freshman Isaiah Guerra moved up to fifth in Northern California with one javelin toss of 46.96m which also qualified the freshman for the Northern California Championship in his third event. Juilan Resendiz also tossed a best of 37.81 in the javelin while hitting the regional qualifier in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.90m. Nicholas Merillana and Jesus Avalos had top marks for the team in the 1500 meter run with 4:06.95 and 4:12.46. Shraee Harrison returned to the track for his first 400 meter in three years with a Norcal qualifying 50.05. The quartet of De'Antae Williams, Jakob Streeter, Nick Merillana, and Tim Hunter produced one of the fastest 4x400 meter relay times in the last several years to finish the meet. They edged conference rival DeAnza College with their 3:26.11.
The Panther will head into spring break with two weeks to prepare for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Chabot College and the annual DeAnza "Duel" Meet.
