Williams Hits State B Mark in 100 Meters
The Hartnell College men's team traveled north for the College of San Mateo Last Chance Meet on Thursday. The highlight of the meet was a freshman De'Antae Williams, former Seaside High School prep, reaching the State "B" mark in the 100 meters. The mark moved him to 12th all-time in program history and established a new lifetime best. In addition to Williams, fellow freshman Shraee Harrison nearly equaled his lifetime best in the 100 meters but did acheive the regional qualifying standard with his 11.10 run. Williams was the overall winner with Harrison fourth overall.
Nicholas Merillana and Jesus Avalos lead the distance men doing 1-2 in the 1500 meters with 4:12.33 and 4:12.41 marks. Avalos was the highest placing Panther in the 800 meters with a lifetime best of 2:04.48 to place fourth overall in his heat. Andres Rodriguez was the winner of the 5000 meters in 16:56.66. Sophomore Brendan Lepe hit a lifetime best in the 400mIH (56.10) and doubled with a debut in the 100HH at 16.98, his first ever attempt at the 42 inch hurdles. Isaiah Guerra hit two personal bests in the horizontal jumps. In the long jump, Guerra nearly eclipsed the 22 foot barrier with his 6.65m jump (21'10"). He added a triple jump mark of 13.79m to meet the State "B" mark for the event. Guerra also had a lifetime best 47.04m javelin mark. Wyatt Conner continued to power the throwing crew with 13.60m in the shot put to guide freshman Guy Gida to his first 40 foot throw at 12.34m to go along with his personal best 38.56m hammer toss.Conner also tossed the discus 38.45m and the hammer.
The Panthers will head into the 2019 Coast Conference Championship looking for their eighth title in the decade starting on Wednesday, April 24th.
