Amaro Leads Panthers at Hancock
Sophomore Armando Moreno Amaro has already hit the State "A" in the hammer throw to kick off his sophomore year but he has been eyeing the ninth place all-time mark in the hammer held by his coach/mentor Frankie Martinez. At the Henry Kirk Invitational, Amaro finally passed his mentor by setting a meet and facility record with a toss of 48.60m as he gave a the 160 foot barrier a scare. Amaro broke the facilty record by over seven meters as well. The Soledad High School grad is currently ranked third in Northern California and sixth best in the state. Freshman Aiden Ishimaru also enjoyed a personnal best in the hammer as he chases his teammate Amaro. Ishimaru produced one of the best first-year hammer marks at 43.65m.
On the track, sophomore Eduardo Morfin was the top community college finisher in both the 100m (11.02) and 200m (22.89). Jesse Blanco won the 1500 meters in 4:15.93. Freshman Anthony Noriega won the 400mIH (64.29) with Jose Cota second in the 800 meters (2:02.77). Freshman Logan Bayhonan set a season bests in the long jump (6.33m) and triple jump (12.52m) with Adrian Manriquez (1.70m) prepping for his first decathlon in the high jump. Isaiah Garife broke the 11 meter barrier in the shot put to lead the Panthers in that competition. He was also tops for the Panthers in the discus (35.45m). Luis Hector Rosales Ortega was second in the javelin (37.69m).
The Panthers will compete next at the Pat Ryan Invitational/Multi-Event at Santa Rosa Junior College on March 13-14.
