Manriquez Completes First Decathlon at Pat Ryan
Freshman Adrian Manriquez became Hartnell's first decathlete in two years after he completed the two day, ten event competition this past weekend at the Pat Ryan Invitational. Manriquez who had primarily been a long hurder and jumper in high school, finished seventh in a field of twelve athletes. He scored 4485 points despite taking a no height mark during a rainy pole vault portion of the competition. Manriquez started the decathlon placing fifth in the 100m (11.76). His long jump mark of 6.05m was good for third overall. Competing with the 16lb shot put for the first time, he recorded a mark of 7.61m. He would bounce back in the high jump with the second best clearance at 1.71m. Manriquez capped day one with a 53.18 in the 400m for third place. Manriquez would start day two with a personal best in the 110HH (18.54). He would drop a few places in part to a 20.22m in the discus portion. The no height in the pole vault would eliminate any chance of a 5000 point debut but Manriquez did manage a 29.70m in the javelin 4:57.35 in the 1500 meters to close out his first decathlon. The completion should make him eligible to participate in the Northern California Championship on April 8-9 also at Santa Rosa Junior College.
In the regular program at Pat Ryan, Eduardo Morfin doubled 11.07 and 22.48 in the sprints. Eduardo Manriquez posted a quick 22.56 in the 200 meters.
