Panther Men Record First "Duel" Meet Victory
It took seven editions of the Hartnell vs De Anza "Duel" Meet for the Hartnell men to finally record their first victory and it was done in dominant fashion. The closest the men had to come to winning was back in 2018 coming up just one point short. In this year's meet, the Panthers tallied their largest score at 114 points, easily outdistancing the Mountain Lions with just 46 points. The annual dual meet has been an early preview of the Coast Conference Championship.
Sophomore Eduardo Morfin made a terrfic second year memory winning both the 100 meters and 200 meters. His winning time of 10.83 in the 100 meters was a season best and broke the meet broke of 10.87 set by Charile Chiang of De Anza College. Morfin came back to easily win the 200 meters over teamamte Eduardo Manriquez 22.09 to 22.79. Manriquez set a season best in his 400 meter victory (50.96). Morfin, Manriquez, Adrian Manriquez, and Julian Chuca closed the fastest to win the 4x100 (43.69). Adrian Manriquez won the 110mHH (18.41) and 400mIH (59.43). Sophomore Jesse Blanco won the 1500 meters (4:10.00) and 3000 meters (9:02.98). Jose Cota was victorious in the 800 meters (2:01.02). Galen Okamoto ran his second best time in the 3k steeplechase (10:48.30). The men's 4x400 relay of Manriguez, Cota, Morfin, and Jacob Dizon won the 4x400 relay in 3:33.06.
Freshman Logan Bayhonan won the long jump in a season best 6.47m. Gianni Ponce broke the 13 meter barrier in the triple jump (13.04m) and cleared 1.80m in the high jump for a double victory. Freshman Vicente Cruz set a new personal best in winning the javelin (43.89m). Sophomore Adam Gonzalez won the pole vault in 3.04m. Freshman Jesus de Alfaro lead in the discus (36.43m) with Isaiah Garife in the shot put (11.32m). Armando Amaro broke the 150 foot barrier once again for second in the hammer (46.31m).
The Panthers will return to action for a busy weekend March 28-29 with competitions at Modesto Junior College and Clovis Buchanan High School for the West Coast Relays.
