Armaro Moves Up at West Coast Relays
Sophomore Armando Moreno Amaro used the high level of competition at the West Coast Relays to get nearer to the 50 meter mark in the hammer throw. Amaro had a first round throw of 49.44m, a lifetime best, to pass Jeff Passimini and into the eighth best spot in Hartnell College history. Amaro's Friday mark inspired several more personal bests on Saturday.
Freshman Vicente Cruz pushed his javelin best out nearly another meter in just one day having throw 43.01m on Friday and used Saturday for a 43.99m. Vicente is ranked second in the Coast Conference and he continues to get closer to the State "B" mark. Freshman Gianni Ponce set a season best in the triple jump at 13.10m. Fellow freshman Corbin Osborn also set a lifetime best jumping 12.55m. Sophomore Jesus Hernandez ran his first 5000 meters under 16 minutes in 15:53.81. Freshman Adrian Manriquez shaved two seconds off his 400mIH to 57.48. Bryan Ortega set a season best in the discus at 37.37m. Sophomore Jacob Dizon lowered his 800 meters to 1:58.55. Jesse Blanco doubled with two season bests in the 1500 meters (4:08.41) and 800 meters (2:01.68). Eduardo Manriquez was timed in 51.24 in the open 400 meters. The relay team of Eduardo Morfin, the Manriquez brothers, and Julian Chuca set a season best in the 4x100 meter relay (43.00). The brothers along with Ponce and Dizon also set a season best in the 4x400 relay at 3:27.42.
The Panthers will send a group of mostly distance runners to the Mike Fanelli Classic on April 4-5 looking to improve important marks in the 1500, 800, 3k steeplechase, and 5000 meters.
