Manriquez Gets State "B" at Norcal Decathlon Championship
Freshman Adrian Manriquez placed eleventh in his first ever Northern California Decathlon Championship at Santa Rosa Junior College. Spread over two days, the decathlon encompasses ten events with five on day one and five on day. Manriquez managed several personal bests and made up for his no height in the pole vault a month back at the Pat Ryan Decathlon to tally 5158 points. His total was good enough for the State "B".
On day one, the Rancho San Juan graduate started the day with a 11.50 season best in the 100 meters good for sixth best. He would underperform slightly in the long jump recording only 5.98m but was still the seventh best mark in the field. A personal best in the shot put of 8.33m kept Manriquez in the top 8 of the field through three events. He would clear 1.75m for the State "B" in the high jump and finish in fifth for the event. Day one concluded with a 52.53 in the 400m for eighth overall.
Day two would start with the 110mHH with Manriquez only able to run 18.55, a time off his season best of 18.22. He would rally a bit with a lifetime best in the discus 25.07m. He cleared 2.90m in the pole vault to record his first decathlon pole vault clearance but was only good for sixteenth best in the event. Another personal best in the javelin of 34.44m set Manriquez up for the final event of the decathlon, the grueling 1500 meters. Bringing a decathlon best fo 4:57.35 in the event, Manriquez would hold on to the top group to record a lifetime best 4:44.31 to place eighth to conclude the event. Overall, Manriquez was eleventh just 37 points from the top 10 and 227 points from a podium spot.
Manriquez will now shift his attention to make individual and relay events in preparation for the Northern California Championship on May 2-3.
