Freshman Osborn Gets Triple Jump State Mark at UCSB
The UCSB Open Meet provided the Hartnell men's track & field team an opportunity to travel together away from normal competition and venues and prepare for the final month of the season under ideal Santa Barbara weather. Freshman Corbin Osborn produced his best triple jump series of the spring notching a lifetime best 13.51m to finish sixth overall and more importantly achieve the State "B" mark. Osborn has been on a roll in recent weeks but this meet was his first over thirteen meters and he did it twice in his six jumps. The mark moves Osborn into the top 8 in Northern California with one remaining regular season meet to go.
The weather and runways were good to the Hartnell jumps with Osborn performing well but also freshmen Gianni Ponce and Logan Bayhonan. Ponce found 6.40m in the long jump for the first time this spring and added another 13.06m in the tripile jump. Bayhonan lead in the long jump at 6.46m and added 12.58m in the triple jump. Freshman Cristopher Martinez flirted with his first 40 footer with a season best 11.98m. Jose Cota went wire-to-wire in 1:57.09 to win his heat of the 800 meters. Jesse Blanco had a double personal best 4:03.99 in the 1500 meters and 2:00.20 in the 800 meters. Eljiah Melchor took 50 seconnds off his 3k steeplechase 10:35.37 and ran a season best 2:01.00 in the 800 meters. Anthony Enriquez lowered his 110mHH down to 18.08. Jacob Dizon set a lifetime best 52.18 in the open 400m. Galen Okamoto lead in the 400mIH (66.18).
In the throws, Armando Moreno Amaro was third at 48.91m. Misael Silva was tops in the shot put at 10.93m. Bryan Ortega eclipsed 37 meters for another meet at 37.19m to lead all Panthers. Vicente Cruz flirted with 44 meters again at 43.75m.
The Panthers will host the Gary Shaw Last Chance Meet on Friday-Saturday, April 18-19 with the hammer being contested on Friday.
