Prior to Hartnell: Luis competed for four year at Greenfield High School. He improved steadily over his Bruin career capped with two Mission Trail Athletic League team titles and two trips to the CIF State Championship. He finished right behind current teammate Jaime Martinez with a time of 17:03 at Woodward Park. Luis also brings in a personal best 16:41 at Crystal Springs. On the track, Luis ran 4:46 and 10:29 and has some experience in the low hurdles.

"Luis has shown great poise as a freshman and is molding into a future team leader quickly. He's run personal bests of four miles every week so I'm excited to see if he can keep that momentum going through November. Luis has more ability that he may realize but we'll pull it out of him when it matters most."
