He was the Salinas City Junior Varsity individual champion as a junior in his first year of running. A CCS qualifier, Jonathan placed 23rd overall. He brings in Toro Park and Crystal Springs personal bests of 16:39 and 16:20.

On the track, Jonathan has good range running 2:03 for the 800 meters, 4:46 for the 1600 meters, and 10:10 for 3200 meters. He qualified for the MBL Masters Meet both years.

"Jonathan had a near dream season in the spring after a solid first cross country season. He flirted with making the top 7 in the fall and just missed all-conference behind his fellow teammate Christian Aldape. The steeplechase success he had in the spring was a great example of his future cross country ability as he is able to maintain a high level of effort no matter how many obstacles are in his way."
