Bio
Freshman Year: Luis had a slow start to his freshman cross country season but showed tremendous potential with a 21:33 four mile mark at the Norcal Preview/Think Pink meet. He also placed 21st at the Toro Park Invitational in 22:44. Unfortunately, Luis was not able to compete at the Coast Conference Championship due to injury. In track, Luis ran new lifetime bests for equivalent distances of 1500, 3000, and 5000m. He was a Norcal finalist in the 1500 and 5000 meter races.
Prior to Hartnell: Luis ran his final three years for San Benito High School enjoying his best season as a senior. He placed tenth as a senior at the Monterey Bay League Championship. Luis has also accumulated two significant races at Woodward Park in high school with a best of 17:37.
"We got Luis training with us more this summer and he logged a great preparation period. Early workouts show he's one of our most fit guys. He's light, with good mechanics and has demonstrated a strong head. Luis posted solid track times that if he carries them over to cross country, he will be contending for all-region honors despite not running the conference meet last year! He does need to get better at listening to his body in our training and head off any redflags early. Once he gets it all right, Luis will be one of our best no doubt."
