Panthers Start Title Run at MPC Open
This year's Hartnell College women's track & field team has some big shoes to fill after last spring's squad won the Northern California Championship. The 2019 crew is up for the challenge and enjoyed some solid marks to kick off the season at nearby Monterey Peninsula College. Freshman Isabelle Torres placed second in the 3000 meter run in 11:15.75. The mark makes the former Salinas High School Cowboy a top 10 performer in the state. Sophomore Tyshell Johnson-Hill and freshman Morgan Boesiger both surpassed the regional qualifying provisional mark in the shot put. Johnson-Hill pushed the shot to 10.72m with Boesiger at 9.85m. Frosh Shaelynne Smith debuted in the 100m hurdles in 17.63. Sophomore Veronica Aguilar was a heat winner in the 200 meters at 28.01. Freshman Alyssa Pena eclipsed the 100 feet barrier in the discus with her metrick mark of 31.15m.
The Panthers will host the Gary Shaw Multi-Event and 10k Qualifier on Monday and Tuesday, February 18-19.
