Vandelipe and Smith Complete Heptathlon
Teammates Shaelynne Smith and Anesa Vanderlipe completed the seven event heptathlon as part of the Gary Shaw Multi-Event and 10k Qualifier. Smith won the 100 hurdles (17.64), 200 meters (29.13), and 800 meters (3:11.43). Teammate Vanderlipe had the better marks in the long jump (4.49m), javelin (25.76m), high jump (1.34m), and shot put (7.09m). Smith tallied 2626 points in her first attempt in the event with Vanderlipe at 2447 points.
In the women's 10k qualifier, Monica Ruelas ran 25 laps side by side with teammate Daniela Salazar to nearly identical times 39:28.30 and 39:29.80 They become just the eighth and ninth females in program history to cover the 25 lap distance in under 40 minutes. Teammates Maria Aceves (40:54.70) and Isabelle Torres (41:40.10) also completed the longest distance on the track with Aceves running a personal best.
The Panthers will compete at the DVC Hall of Fame Classic on Friday, February 22.
