Panther Women Post Solid Marks In Modesto
The Hartnell College track & field team split squads sending a majority of the team to what was essentially the Norcal Championship preview meet at Modesto Junior College while a handful of distance runners ventured south to the Occidental College Distance Carnival. The Jack Albiani Invitational at Modesto was held under cold, cloudy but rain-free conditions and helped the Panthers produce numerous season bests despite unusually large field event entries which made those competitions take an extremely long time to complete.
Freshman Shaelynne Smith hurdled her way to a season best 16.91 in the 100mH which also qualified her to the regional championship. Smith is currenlty ranked in the top 9 in the region in the sprint hurdles. Sophomore Tyshell Johnson-Hill is assuming the leadership role for the throwers nicely with two season bests. She tossed the shot put to 11.27m and set a new lifetime hammer throw best at 34.60m. She was followed in the shot put by fellow soph Idalys Romero with a lifetime best 10.34m. Stephanie Politron had the team's best discus throw with a lifetime best 32.80m. Veronica Aguilar scored two season bests in the flat sprints. She lowered her season best in the 400m to 62.49 and the 200m to 27.82. The 200m was a fruitful event for the Panthers with Dakota Peebles lowering her lifetime best to 28.51. Sophomore Anesa Vanderlipe lead the ladies in the horizontal jumps with a season best triple jump of 9.68m. Freshman Lorena Gonzalez was the lone distance female in attendance but did run 2:44.37 and 21:56.98 in the 800m and 5000m races.
The Panthers will take a small group to the CSU Sacramento Hornet Invitational on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15.
