Panther Women Come Up Short Versus Rival DeAnza
Despite taking the top spot in nine events, the Panther women came up seven points short. Sophomore Monica Ruelas won two events and guided her teammates to a wins in a third. Ruelas lowered her lifetime best in easily winning the 3000 meters in 10:49.75. Sophomores Maria Aceves (12:22.89) and Nina Arias (12:31.67) picked up State "B" marks in the 3k steeplechase season debuts. They go to second and third ranked in Northern California. Isabelle Torres and Nerina Campos went 1-2 in the 1500 meters in 5:09.40 and 5:09.74. Campos also dipped under 2:30 for the first time ever in the 800 meters (2:29.89). The women's 4x1 relay team of Shaelynne Smith, Veronica Aguilar, Dakota Peebles, and Anesa Vanderlipe ran a season best 51.80. Aguilar, Peebles, Ruelas, and Arias teamed up for a season best 4:17.31 in the 4x400 relay. Smith also lowered her 100 hurdles to 16.42 in taking second. Aguilar was the winner of the 400 meters in a lifetime best 61.30. Peebles moved to #8 in Norcal with a lifetime best 1:10.46 in the 400mLH. Vanderlipe hit a big personal best long jump 5.22m that moved her to fith in the region. She also tossed the javelin to a lifetime best 27.62.
The Panthers will rest until the CSM Last Chance Meet on Thursday, April 18th.
