Torres Goes Sub 5 at Last Chance Meet
Freshman Isabelle Torres who prepped locally at Salinas High School, lowered her lifetime best for 1500 meters to 4:59.97 at the CSM Last Chance Meet. She joins a rare club of Hartnell female distance runners to achieve the feat in their first year of collegiate track & field. Torres won the event and lowered her best by nearly 9 seconds to achieve the feat. She goes to fourth in Northern California with her mark. She also lowered her lifetime best in the 800 meters to 2:33.51. Sophomore Maria Aceves qualified to Northern California Trials with her first sub 2:30 800 meter run (2:29.39).
In the sprints, sophomore Veronica Aguilar lowered her lifetime best in the 100 meters to 13.09 to take the victory in her only 100 meter competition this season. Dakota Peebles established a lifetime best in the 400mLH (1:10.58). Anesa Vanderlipe had a season best in the triple jump at 10.16m. Freshman Morgan Boesiger added two feet to her season best shot with a metric mark of 10.63. Tyshell Johnson-Hill took the hammer to a best 36.86m which should qualify for the sophomore to the Norcal Trials. Idalys Romero also achieved the provisional mark in the hammer with a new best 34.85m.
The Panther women will compete next at the 2019 Coast Conference Championship and look to win a second consecutive team title.
